Canon Powershot SD790 IS Review

Review Summary

Review (Summary): "Due to the continuing success of the Canon's Powershot Digital ELPH series, they have brought you a couple new models for 2008, one being the SD790 IS. Sporting a 10-megapixel imaging sensor, 3" PureColor II LCD screen, face detection and motion detection technologies as well as optical image stabilization, make this one of the most full-featured Digital ELPH's yet. ...

... The Canon PowerShot SD790 IS is a powerful and easy to use camera wrapped up in an "ultra- compact" body. The combination of quality and performance is nicely complimented by the 10-megapixel imaging sensor and optical image stabilization. ..."

Review (Summary) : "Announced on the 13th of March 2008, the Canon Digital IXUS 90 IS / SD790 is one of Canon's new ultra compact, ultra stylish digital cameras with image stabilization, and features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 3" screen, VGA video recording, a 10 megapixel sensor and face detection focus. ...

... The Canon Digital IXUS 90 IS / SD790 is an ultra stylish compact camera that provides an impressive 3" screen, 10 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens and image stabilization. Noise is controlled quite well considering the camera has 10 megapixels, and image quality is generally very good. ..."

Review (Summary): "The Canon IXUS 90 IS (Powershot SD790 IS in the U.S.) camera has a stylish and a compact trendy body offering 10 Megapixels of resolution. With the help of a 3x optical zoom, unfortunately no 28mm wide angle, Canon's optical Image Stabilizer (IS) with lens-shifting feature, PureColor LCD II and integrated enhanced intelligent software the Canon Digital IXUS 90 is a camera with powerful features packed in a neat and compact size designer housing. ...

... The Canon IXUS 90 IS scores really well on image quality, colour reproduction and user’s ease. The limited zoom capacity of the camera remains a pity. I am sure there is a reason for not applying it, but personally I find a 28mm wide angle a feature that Canon should not have missed. Wide angle has many advantages and not only for the enhanced photographer. ..."

Photography Blog 7.50 05-04-08 Read Full Review
Review (Summary): "ith its all-metal build and what Canon is describing as a 'chiseled' faceplate, there's no denying that the new Digital IXUS 90 IS (SD790 IS in the U.S.), while physically larger than the recently-announced IXUS 80 IS (SD770 IS in the U.S.), continues the range's tradition of stylish, good-looking pocket cameras. That much is expected. Instead of the IXUS 80's eight megapixel headline specification married to a 2.5-inch rear LCD however, the Canon Digital IXUS 90 IS features 10 megapixels and a larger 3-inch LCD with 15 levels of brightness adjustment, though the resolution remains at its little brother's 230k pixels.

... For me, image noise could be better tackled and the OIS made yet more effective, meaning there are snapshot cameras out there delivering better images under a wider variety of conditions – the latest 10 megapixel Lumix models from Panasonic spring to mind. That said, the Canon Digital IXUS 90 IS exudes slightly more class when it comes to overall build and design, and at the end of the day it feels that you really are getting what you're paying for, ..."
